We have more than 40,000 items in our collection available for checkout, including:

  • Adult fiction and non-fiction books
  • Children’s books, birth through teens
  • Young Adult books
  • Large print materials
  • Movies (VHS & DVD) for all ages
  • Audiobooks
  • CDs
  • Educational toys, puppets and a puppet stage
  • Local and Kansas history collections
  • Monomouse magnifiers (to use with computers for those with vision impairments)
  • Records (yes, we have vinyl!)
  • Overhead projector
  • Filmstrip projector
  • Portable DVD player

Through past grants, we have acquired many resources on the Amish & Mennonites, Quilting, and Conscious Aging, among other collections.

New items are added on a continuous basis. Patron requests and suggestions are always welcome and can be made in person, by phone (620.327.4666) or by email (hesstonpubliclibrary@gmail.com).

Most items check out for three weeks. Videos, toys and audio/visual equipment checks out for one week.

In the event an item is already checked out by someone else, feel free to ask for a hold to be placed on the item, and you will be added to the waiting list.

In the event you are looking for an item that is not in our collection, we usually can borrow it from another library at no charge to you through interlibrary loan.
